In this scene the two sisters Elsa and Anna are talking. Anna wants to get married to her new friend Hans, but Elsa does not approve!
このシーンでは二人の姉妹、エルサとアナ、が話しています。アナはハンスという新しい友人と結婚したいですが、エルサはそれが良いと思えません。
Let’s start with the first line
最初のセリフから行きましょう
Elsa says, “You can’t marry a man you just met”
エルサは「You can’t marry a man you just met」と言っています
Can’t はcannotの略語で、「できない」という意味があります。
また、国によって「can’t」の発音が変わります！
アメリカだと“CANt” イギリスなら“CAHNt”
One more important point is that the word can’t has multiple meanings!
もう一つの大事なポイントは「can’t」という言葉は多様な意味があります。
Let’s try using an example sentence:
英語の文例を使いましょう！
“You can’t eat that”
一つ目の意味は食べることはできません 。
For example, if your friend is about to eat fake food thinking it is real, you can say “Stop! You can’t eat that. It’s not real food”
例えば、友達が偽物が食べ物と思いつつ食べようとしたら、“Stop! You can’t eat that. It’s not real food”と言えば良いです。
それが食べられないよ！本物の食べ物じゃないから！
じゃあ、「You can’t eat that」の二つ目の意味は「それを食べちゃダメ！」「食べないで！」
For example, a mother may say to her child, “That’s your sister’s chocolate. You can’t eat that” それがあなたのお姉ちゃんのチョコだから食べちゃダメ！ 食べないで！
例えば、お母さんは子供に、That’s your sister’s chocolate. You can’t eat that それがあなたのお姉ちゃんのチョコだから食べちゃダメ！ 食べないで！
So, let’s return to Elsa’s line
エルサのセリフに戻りましょう
“You can’t marry a man you just met”
Elsa’s says “You can’t marry”
エルサはYou can’t marryと言います。
英語でmarryは「結婚する」という意味がありますので、エルサは「結婚できないよ！結婚しちゃダメ！」と言っています。
そして、A man you just met は日本語で「会ったばっかりの男」。
Justは「〇〇したばっかり」という意味があります。
For example, “I just woke up” is「起きたばっかり」 and “She just left school” is「彼女はちょうど学校を出たばっかり」
例えば、 “I just woke up” は「起きたばっかり」、そして“She just left school” は「彼女は学校を出たばっかり」
So, if we put it all together, Elsa says: “You can’t marry a man you just met” 会ったばっかりの男と結婚しちゃダメ
なので、全部一緒にすると、エルサはYou can’t marry a man you just metと言っています。
“You can’t marry a man you just met”
会ったばっかりの男と結婚しちゃダメ！
In response, Anna says, “You can if it’s true love”
それに応じて、アナは「You can if it’s true love」と言いました。
True loveならできるよ！
True love は？真実の恋、本当の愛、恋人などの意味があります。
If という言葉は「 もし。。ならば」を意味します。
For example, “If you are hungry, please let me know.” もしお腹すいたら、教えて下さい！
じゃあ、「You can if it’s true love」は日本語で「もし真実の恋ならできるよ」
エルサはそう思いませんけどね。
Elsa’s reply is「Anna, what do you know about true love?」
エルサの返事は「Anna, what do you know about true love?」
エルサのセリフを直訳すれば、「true love については何が知っていますか？」という意味になります。
でも、この場合だと、エルサが本当に言っているのは「アナはtrue loveのこと知らないだろう」。
So, Anna says: More than you.
そして、アナはMore than youと言います。
あなたより知ってるよ！
The next line is: All you know is how to shut people out
次のセリフは：All you know is how to shut people out
Shut outは「締め出す」という意味があります。
でも、「shut someone out」の意味は誰かを無視することとか、あなたの人生で誰かと縁を切ることなどです。
Anna says, “All you know is how to shut people out”
アナはAll you know is how to shut people outと言います。
あなたが知ってるのは人を避けることだけ！
